What Role Can Light Therapy Play in the Treatment of Brain Injury?

Updated: Sep 3, 2023

Historically, brain damage caused by Stroke or Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion was felt to be irreversible. In addition, it was taught that the brain was incapable of generating new cells. Current scientific breakthroughs however now reveal that neither is true. Several studies have looked at Infrared/Red Light Therapy and Brain Injury and have seen incredible results.

In a small study, five Veterans with documented Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) applied Infrared/Red Light therapy to their heads for a minimum of 20 minutes, 3 times per week for 12 weeks. Brain SPECT imaging was done before and after the Light Therapy. The results were impressive. Each Veteran reported a marked improvement in their cognitive symptoms. Also, there were significant improvements in blood flow to the brain.

Infrared/Red Light Therapy has been shown in peer-reviewed scientific studies to reverse the pathological changes associated with Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, as well as improve conditions such as Depression, PTSD and Anxiety.

I have had my own personal experience/case study dealing with a brain and spinal injury and Infrared/Red Light Therapy was a game changer for me on my healing journey, so I am excited to be sharing this modality with others!
